Outpour | Safe Home Land
Mae Sot, Thailand
Mae Sot is unique in that over 60% of our population is made up of people from Burma. One thing we see happen a lot is families or mamas come across the border to give birth in hospitals here and then leave their newborns at the hospitals as they return to Burma. There are a million different reasons why mamas choose to abandon their child, but unlike in America, just because a child is born here in Thailand doesn't mean they are given Thai citizenship if their family origins are not Thai. In the case of a child being abandoned who has no traceable next of kin, this child is then deemed "stateless" - meaning they have no citizenship in Thailand or Burma. This makes it nearly impossible for them to obtain any kind of legal identification, attend school in the future, or even find a job. Statelessness is a huge issue people face along our border, and these are specifically the cases we hope to address and fight for with this Outpour Safe Home Land.
We want to see these children restored to family and family restored to them. We want to see them obtain proper legal identification that will allow them a better and brighter future. And we want to work alongside the governing authorities and court systems of Thailand to eventually see a reversal to the laws set in place. We long to see a nation transformed and see statelessness eradicated!
"That they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord that He may be glorified. And they shall rebuild the old ruins. They shall raise up the former desolations. And they shall repair the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations." - Isaiah 61:3-4
“Prepare to receive babies and children,” the Lord said to our team years ago. Not knowing the extent of what God meant, we have been preparing ever since—learning more about the need in our border town where trafficking of all kinds happens behind closed doors. We believe God is using us to help pave the way for future children to be rescued from the harsh reality of abandonment and the risks that coincide with it.
In February 2020, we located the right piece of land, signed a contract, and placed a down payment. Then, as we began fundraising, Covid hit the world. Yet in the midst of a global pandemic, we saw over $450,000 come in and officially paid for the land in full in June 2021! Only God!
Our vision for these 24 Rai (9.5 acres) of land is for it to become a safe space that legally and lovingly protects and advocates for the best interests of vulnerable and at-risk children (0-18). Providing loving foster families, education, training, legal identification, as well as physical, emotional, mental and spiritual support, the end goal is to see these children reunited with or legally placed in their forever families.
Construction has already begun as we officially broke ground at the end of May! Our office/multi-purpose building is currently being built, which will serve as the “heart” of the Safe Home Land—allowing us a space where all future projects/ministries will flow from. This building is also the first requirement toward achieving Safe Home Land status with the Thai government.
This land is about RESTORATION. We believe in it, we pray for it, and we continue each day to pursue this dream of seeing children restored to family and family to children.
“That they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord that He may be glorified. And they shall rebuild the old ruins. They shall raise up the former desolations. And they shall repair the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations.”
-Isaiah 61:3-4
Outpour serves the people on the Thai/Myanmar border through educational trainings, social enterprises, community outreach, and restoring children and families.
We do this by empowering individuals and families to find belonging and restoration in Christ while creating eternal impact.
Our land will be a safe space that legally and lovingly protects and advocates for the best interests of vulnerable and at-risk children (0-18). Providing loving foster families, education, training, legal identification, as well as physical, emotional, mental and spiritual support, the end goal is to see these children reunited with or legally placed in their forever families.
