The war on Ukraine has expanded our partner's ministry in ways she couldn't have planned for. When Allina arrived in Ukraine six weeks ago, she had only planned to take care of 75 orphans. Since the invasion, dozens more have come in from the East and this number is continuing to increase.
Allina and her partners are providing for more than the orphanages now. They are also providing food and supplies for internally displaced people (IDPs). Allina is visiting the grocery store almost daily.
God is using Allina’s connections to provide safe places for IDPs. It is common now for Allina to receive calls and messages from strangers fleeing the East. These IDPs need help with transportation, food, and safe shelter as they leave their homes.
Allina and her partners are extremely thankful for the steady flow of donations. The support has been a huge help as the price of food, gas, and resources is spiking.
God is orchestrating several hopeful stories even amidst the resource shortages. Allina shared this beautiful one with us last week.
Buckwheat is a popular item as it is an inexpensive way to give the orphans a full belly. It is also one of the first things that ran out on the grocery store shelves.
As Allina and her team were in search of sustainable food, they reached out to a tiny, bodega-styled store. It was a long shot. Even so, they asked if there was any buckwheat left. The owner was unaware of the war approaching and didn't order extra buckwheat.
Nevertheless, eleven pallets of buckwheat were unexpectedly delivered to the store! The owner reserved the shipment for Allina to pick up.
This was a miracle and a reminder that God is still present even in the darkest of times. It's stories like these that echo these verses:
"He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing." - Deuteronomy 10:18
"Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation." - Psalm 68:5
"Every day a new need arises. Every day we ask the question of how far this war will go. Every day we look at our resources and see where we can make an impact for even just one child or family..."
